Professor Andy Dougill

Andy is Professor of Environmental Sustainability and Dean of the Faculty of Environment. Andy’s research focuses on understanding environmental change in dryland regions of Africa, including both miombo woodland systems and semi-arid savanna rangelands. He has assessed a wide range of community-based natural resource management initiatives and developed approaches for community monitoring of environmental change and land management options, in a wide range of environmental settings. Research approaches developed require the integration of a number of disciplines, including soil science, ecology, development studies and environmental social science. He currently holds a Leverhulme Senior Research Fellowship for a project on “Socio-environmental analyses of community carbon projects in Malawi & Zambia” and has active research projects across southern Africa more widely.
