John is the Project Officer for Restoring Hardknott Forest, a partnership between the University of Leeds and Forestry England. The project is working to restore a 630 hectare former conifer plantation to native woodland and other habitats, for the benefit of people, nature and climate.

Community involvement and partnership is key to the success of the project with regular volunteer events, school visits and tours of the site.

As well as contributing to the practical restoration of the forest, the project will conduct broader research to improve our understanding of the restoration of semi-natural woodlands in the UK.
